Storm Trooping
Natural disasters happen throughout the nation. Most of the time, they are catastrophic and unexpected. Take the Ice Storm of ’09 and the Tornado of Dec 10th 2021. Even the weather reporters and weather historians were grappling with the intensity in which these storms took shape.
The Ice Storm of ’09 impacted parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The storm produced widespread power outages for over 2 million people due to heavy ice accumulation. The hardest-hit areas were in Kentucky with over 500,000 residences without power during the height of the storm, including 100,000 without power for over one week, and northern Arkansas, with 300,000 residences without power. Power was restored to many in a few hours, but most were without power for many days.
The tornado outbreak on December 10th in Kentucky set records on many levels. It tracked for over 200 miles, measured over 1 mile wide at the base and sustained winds up to 193 MPH. The Freeman Group is located in the path of this tornado. It wasn’t that power was out in these areas, but there were no poles left. Everything was gone. What was thought to be weeks, if not months of residents going without power, turned into just a few days here in the Cambridge Shores area. Strategic planning and in field evaluations and decisions were key to making this happen.
The Freeman Group founder and CEO was part of both of these historic power restorations. Traditional methods were the only way to even begin this reconstruction. Boots in the field.
